The UK government has issued a strict list of rules for those wishing to pay their final respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II as her coffin lies in state at the Palace of Westminster also known as the House of Parliament.

The palace will officially open to the public on Wednesday 14 September at 17:00. It will remain open for 24 hours a day until it closes on Monday 19 September at 06:30.

On Thursday 8 September, Queen Elizabeth II passed away surrounded by close family members at her Balmoral estate in Scotland. She will be buried in a state funeral on Monday 19 September at the St George’s Chapel, on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

According to a statement issued by the UK government, royal fans are expected to wait in long queues – and possibly overnight to see the coffin of Queen Elizabeth.

It read: “You will need to stand for many hours, possibly overnight, with very little opportunity to sit down, as the queue will keep moving.

“Please consider this before you decide to attend or bring children with you”.
