The Red Knights Motorcycle Club is hosting a charity motorcycle ride this weekend that will benefit a Brownville Elementary student with cancer.
Garrett Armstrong is in the 3rd grade and should be thinking about getting back to class and seeing his friends. But he was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and has started treatments once a week. Soon, that will turn into daily treatments that will continue for two years. While I'm sure he's still looking forward to school, his Mom says he's already getting very drained by the treatments. Even so, Garrett tries to keep up with everything as much as he can.
His passion is firefighting. Garrett loves firetrucks and firefighters and has a dream of one day joining their ranks. So it makes sense that the Red Knights Motorcycle Club has stepped up to help his family out. The RKMC is made up of retired and active firefighters from across the state who also happen to love riding motorcycles.
When they heard about Garrett, the members of RKMC Chapter 8 knew they had to help. So they've organized a charity motorcycle ride on Sunday, August 21st and everyone is invited to join them. I'm told the route is not yet determined, but it will begin and end at Brownville Elementary School. Registration is at 9 a.m. with kickstands up at 10:30, for a route that will run approximately 100 miles. It's $20 per bike. Cars and trucks are also welcome to join in. Just be sure to register before you ride.
There will also be a silent auction at the end of the ride. Several items will be up for bid including 4 Amish Adirondack chairs, a tandem skydive in Millinocket, 4 tickets to the Great Maine Lumberjack Show, $100 gift certificate for a tattoo and more. Once the procession returns to the school, there will be a cookout with Garrett, if he's feeling up to it, as well as his family, friends, and classmates. We all wish you well, Garrett, and hope that you can be there to see all the people who gather in your honor.
