CAKE unveils the ‘:work’ series at Milan’s International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition (EICMA). The line of electric motorcycles addresses urban mobility needs.
Available now, CAKE’s :work bikes focus on inner-city mobility. The brand targets delivery drivers, on-call service professionals, and last-mile deliveries with three new models at various capability levels.
The Swedish brand developed the :work line to confront transportation challenges in increasingly congested areas and help decrease emissions. Bans on new internal combustion engines (planned worldwide) will force cities to rely increasingly on alternative transportation for commerce.
CAKE’s new electric motorcycles, geared toward urban utility, propose a solution to “last mile deliveries,” another way of referring to the last leg of supply chain operation (also known as delivering a product to the customer).
“Any industry that handles large volumes of short-haul transportation of both people and goods understands the daily struggle with traffic jams, parking fines, and the need to find both economical and sustainable fossil fuel-free vehicles,” Stefan Ytterborn, CAKE CEO said.
“The CAKE :work series offers the immediate potential of moving last-mile deliveries and mobile workforces away from traditional solutions for urban transportation … speeding up the process towards a zero-emission society.”
The :work collection builds on CAKE’s three existing platforms: the Kalk (high-performance off-road), Osa (modular utility), and Makka (urban commuter). Optimizations include increased range so the bikes can run for a full workday, and onboard power to support a broader range of trades.
The brand says the power supply can run electric tools or help keep takeout food at the right temperature.
The platform also features improved towing capacity but a smaller form factor, due to tweaks like narrowed handlebars. One new trailer handles loads up to 330 pounds; the compact version carries 110 pounds.
The :work series is available in 19 preconfigured variants, across the three models. Each variant optimizes some work utility: cargo capacity, food delivery, load variation, etc.
Upgrades to CAKE’s urban shuttle platform include two new models (28mph and 16mph top speeds) with the range increased to 68 miles. Onboard power runs electric gadgets, and new accessory racks increase its load-carrying versatility.
Like the smaller Makka, the Osa :work comes in 28mph and 16mph max speeds and gets onboard power. But it also adds a powerful 56mph peak power variant, and a range of up to 99 miles. New trailers can carry loads up to 53 cubic feet.
If CAKE builds the Makka and Osa for workers, it builds the Kalk for those who keep them safe. The bike is bigger, geared toward surveillance or patrol, with 18” off-road tires and various :work ride modes (options for balancing power and range) to get it through rough terrain.
