They pack function and style.

Whether you're a weekend golfer or have dreams of being in the LPGA someday, picking the right golf bag is an essential part of ensuring your time on the course in a hole-in-one. But with so many options currently on the market, it can be hard to know what features are truly the most important for your game.

"Choosing a golf bag is a very personal process in my opinion," says Carrie Abernathy, CEO of A Woman With Drive, a travel and golf blog. "For me, I have to find a bag that is unique and matches my personal style, but is also functional for my serious golf play."

Peep some of the best golf bags here:

One of the best places to start, explains Jenn Harris, founder of The High Heel Golfer, is to think about whether you plan on riding or walking through your tee time. This will narrow your options to a cart, lightweight carry, or hybrid bag before you start thinking about what other features are a must.

Having more than one bag might also be a good option for you, adds Abernathy, who has several bags that she chooses from depending on the type of game she's playing that day, including a simple, super lightweight one for when she plans to walk, and a heavier cart bag that comes with "all the bells and whistles."

"At the end of the day, going to a store to get a feel for bag heft and style are your best bet," she says. You should also not be afraid of making a statement with your bag, Harris says. Not only does having a bright and colorful bag make it easier to identify your cart, but Abernathy says it just kind of makes you feel better, too. "You're excited about getting to the course, and it's another element of your fashion and style."

Harris says that the last time she was looking for one, she looked at 30 bags before going with the Oggio Woode Hybrid. Its separate compartments help keep your clubs organized, and instead of zippers, the Woode Hybrid uses a magnetic snap system.

It also includes three ball indentations on the outside of the bag, which, according to Harris, means "you don't have to keep going in the bag and fishing around for everything."

Rave review: "It has separate compartments for each zone so it's more segmented than your smaller, lighter bags, but it's kind of that in-between," says Harris. "That's probably the most annoying piece—when your clubs get disorganized. I really liked the color, and it could sit really nicely on a full cart. A lot of times, you'll get a bag that will flop to the left or to the right and you can't get to everything you need to."

A true cart bag, the Traverse from Ping is large enough to include full-size club compartments for all your clubs, a cooler compartment, and pockets to store all your gear and course essentials. Abernathy refers to this one as a "jack of all trades."

Rave review: "This bag is a winner. Lots of pockets for stuff. Easy to secure to a cart. Clubs do not get tangled up with each other."

Harris says she's partial to the Callaway Chev. Available in multiple colors and with six pockets, including a velour-lined one for valuables and an insulated one for your beverage of choice on the green, it's easy to see why.

The four-way divided top keeps your clubs where they should be and the durable fabric will stay looking sharp for rounds to come.

Rave review: "This bag is light, has pockets, and is the perfect color."

The Hoofer Lite strips down the golf bag to its essential elements to create a durable walking bag that weighs in at under five pounds.

But, that doesn't mean the bag is light on features. It includes seven pockets—one for apparel, a kickstand, and a four-way divided top.

Rave review: "Recently arrived and couldn't be happier with the purchase! Very sturdy material and construction. A leader in the category for good reason! Loved walking with it! Very comfortable. Paired down my clubs on purpose [since it] made carrying a breeze."

Available in 13 different colors, the Fairway C is an excellent choice to show off your personality while you're walking the course.

It's also completely waterproof (including the zippers!), so your clubs, tees, and balls are protected, no matter what weather you choose to play in.

Rave review: "It's nice and light," says Harris. "It doesn't have too many pockets, but it has enough for carrying [your tools]."

Designed for both walking and pushcarts, Abernathy loves the Titlelist Hybrid 14 for its lighter design that still includes compartments for each club and nine pockets, including an expandable one for apparel and an external one for your water bottle.

Rave review: "If I were to choose a single multi-purpose bag for travel, walking, and cart usage, it would have to be the Titleist Hybrid 14," says Abernathy. "I like to have several compartments to separate my gear (balls, markers, tees, electronics, rain covers, and personal gear like lip balm, sunscreen, etc)."

For those golfers who "like to have a little more fun out there," as Harris says, and who cart most of the time, she recommends looking into a bag that includes an insulated cooler pocket, like the TaylorMade Lite Cart Bag.

With a section for each of your 14 clubs and 11 various-sized pockets, the Lite Cart Bag will keep you organized.

Rave review: "Great bag. Perfect design. Lightweight and easy to carry from car to cart. Pockets are put in the right places to be accessible while on cart. Cooler in bag is nice added touch."

For when you feel like riding and walking, there's the Sun Mountain 4. 5LS 14-Way. With compartments for each club and 10 pockets, it will keep your valuables safe, and the extra padded adjustable straps keep your back safe when walking as well.

Rave review: "Excellent all around bag for how you choose to play. This is an ideal carry, push cart, and golf cart bag. I used to use a stand bag for carry/push cart days, and a separate cart bag for those days when you feel like riding. Now I just use the 4.5LS 14-way for everything."
