Wallingford Police are searching for this Honda Accord, last seen in the area of Cherry Hill Road Tuesday.

WALLINGFORD — Police say a food delivery driver was dragged about 500 feet as two carjacking suspects fled in his SUV Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to a Chimney Hill Road residence around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a suspicious vehicle, Wallingford Police Sgt. Stephen Jaques said.

“Officers located the suspicious vehicle, which was identified as an older black Honda Accord with dark tinted windows and a white trash bag covering its registration plate, traveling east on Chimney Hill Road,” Jacques said. “Officers tried to conduct a car stop on the Honda, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.”

Soon after spotting the car, officers responded to the area again for a reported carjacking, finding a man suffering from “numerous lacerations to his head, knee and foot,” Jacques said.

Police learned the man was delivering food to a local home when he was “physically confronted” by two suspects, Jaques said.

“One of the suspects had an object in his hand and they attempted to physically take his black Nissan Rogue from him,” said Jaques, who said the victim was unable to determine what type of object the suspect had in his hand.

As the suspects fled, Jaques said the victim was dragged about 500 feet before falling to the ground.

The stolen Nissan was found a short time later in Meriden.

“The Wallingford Police Department would like to remind the public to report suspicious activity if you see it. For those who are employed in a delivery service capacity, use caution when conducting your business,” Jaques said. “It is always better to skip a fare or delivery when you notice something suspicious, than to take a risk and ignore what you see to try to finish your job.”
